Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q : Can the analogue channel 4 - 20 mA be connected to collect the data?
Ans : Yes, Pristine can work from any input source. 4 - 20 mA analogue loop is an industrial standard. Pristine can support that. One needs to add the hardware analogue card for that. Drivers for the popular cards are already included.
Q : Can Pristine support a data input from Multi Dropping RS 232?
Ans : Yes, it can. But Multi dropping RS232 has one disadvantage that all the instruments must be on same baud rate, parity etc. Hence the multi dropped instruments must have a setting facility to set the communication parameters.
Q : How can one connect Local and Central Station?
Ans : Pristine Local and Central Station can be connected by various ways, hardwire RS 232 or RS 485, Modems like Telephone modem, RF modem or Power Line Modem. It can also connect on GPS or GPRS network.

Ans : Yes, Pristine can connect the same. If it is just a physical wire then one needs Lease line modems at both ends or it can be an intercom, then telephone modems can be used. There are two types of Intercom Exchanges. One is only for voice. Naturally they can not be used for data transfer.
Q : How many local stations can be added in one central station?
Ans : As many as possible.
Q : Can we edit the data in Pristine?
Ans : It is unethical to edit the collected data. Hence it is not supported by Pristine. However, there are some third party tools available to edit the data. Kaihatsu does not recommend, or authenticate or take any responsibility of third party data editing tools.
Q : The instrument communication network is RS 485 (RS 422) and PC port is RS 232 so how can Pristine collect the data?
Ans : There is a converter from RS 485 or Rs 422 to RS 232. One will need to use that. Pristine supports all the standard device drivers.
Q : Our instrument is new, it has output port, can we connect the same?
Ans : Yes, we will develop the drivers for new instrument. One will need the communication manual of the new instrument. These drivers can be used.
Q : My Hard Disk has crashed. Pristine is not reloading. What should I do?
Ans : Kindly contact the office.
Q : Pristine shows error in COM port. What should I do?
Ans : Many a times a serial port like COM1 and COM2 are shared by other application. E.g. Fax Drivers. They are automatically made "ON" by windows setting. Under this condition, Pristine can not access the same serial port. You will need to keep the serial port connected to instrument free for Pristine. You can look at the task bar to see if there is any programme using the port. To disable these settings at power ON, follow the steps.
Start -> Run -> msconfig.exe -> OK -> Tab on setup
Q : The Lap Top does not have serial port and we need to load Pristine on Lap Top, How should we proceed?
Ans : There are two ways, One can use USB to serial port. If the user is very knowledgeable with computer hardware system, then only it is recommended. Many a times Windows automatically assigns the USB to Serial port settings once the USB connector is removed and placed again. The simple option is to use PCMCI card based serial ports. These are supplied by many companies.
Q : What should be the hardware and database for my application?
Ans : The speed of the hardware, memory and the database is selected based on the application. Pristine can work with Microsoft Jet Engine&trade, MSSQL&trade and Oracle&trade database. Normally on serial port, pristine can record the readings at 1 sec. interval. Assume you want to read 12 readings, each reading of 4 digits. Then one month data will be 1 sec X 60 sec X 60 min X 24 hr X 30 days X 12 readings X 4 digits X 32 bit = 3,981,312,000 approx 4 G. This data base to be stored in 1 single file for Jet Engine will be very risky. Also any report printing with this kind of data will be too much time consuming. (approx. 30 min on PIV Pentium machines with 128 Mb memory.)
If you are not sure, please consult us for selecting proper hardware and database for your application.
Q : Special Customisation of Pristine, Can we ask for it?
Ans : Yes, Pristine is customised software product. Before purchasing, please download the Pristine evaluation product from our download centre. You can study and ask us whatever changes you want. They will be customised in same quoted cost. Once the product is purchased, any change (even very minor) will be on charge basis.
Q : I have purchased Pristine and now I want to return it as I don't want to use it.
Ans : Once the item is purchased, it can not be returned. This is because, we always insist on checking free evaluation copy before selecting Pristine.
Q : Can I install Pristine on my own?
Ans : Pristine is a customised product and not box pack product. Naturally it is not intended for user installation. However, you have sound technical knowledge about PC systems and communication, you can install. We can provide all the support needed.
Q : We are getting an error no. 13 as soon as we start reading any instrument. What should we do?
Ans : This problem has arise due to some .log file is corrupted or remained open. Please delete all the .log files and restart Pristine.
